Keep Reading All Summer Long!

Reading over the summer helps students avoid the summer slide and return to school ready to learn! Whether it's picture books, chapter books, or graphic novels, every page counts!

To make reading even more rewarding, check out these summer reading incentives from restaurants and companies offering free meals, treats, and prizes just for logging reading time! 🏆

📚Barnes & Noble - Children can keep a book reading journal and then turn it in at a local Barnes & Noble store from July 1st to August 31st, 2025. Any child in 1st–6th grade who reads 8 books will receive a free book, provided their journal is complete. Click for the Barnes & Noble Reading Log.

🍕Pizza Hut BOOK IT! - Pizza Hut is offering their Camp Book-It again this year, which is a summer reading program for children! It gives kiddos a chance to earn a free personal pan pizza every month this summer for reaching their reading goals! Enrollment is limited to five children per family, and vouchers can be earned for the months of June through August for grades K-6. There is an easy Book-It! app to log reading time. Go to https://www.bookitprogram.com/k for more information.

Senate Bill 181 Communication System is ParentSquare

The recently passed Senate Bill 181 is a measure designed to promote student safety and educator protection by ensuring transparency in electronic communications between school employees and students. One requirement of SB 181 is for each school district to determine an exclusive communication system to be used district-wide.

Webster County Schools will use ParentSquare as the exclusive means of electronic communication with students and parents. ParentSquare groups for extracurricular activities have been in use for some time; however, all communication will be transitioned to ParentSquare this summer, replacing other platforms such as Remind and WhatsApp.

More information will be released as this transition occurs and will be updated closer to the start of the new school year. If you haven't downloaded the ParentSquare app, now is a good time to download it from your app store.
